STEP 1 (P90-1)
STEP 1 [TRW]
STEP 1 (Space Test Experiment Platform 1) was a technology demonstration satellite flown under the Space Test Program (STP).
It carried radio propagation experiments, a plasma environment analyser, the CHAMPION ionosphere-magnetosphere coupling experiment, and an accelerometer and mass spectrometer to study the upper atmosphere.. The satellite carried a range of six 5 m long deployable antennas and booms. The CTA LEOStar based spacecraft was 3-axis stabilized and the mission life time was to be three years.
The satellite was carried on the maiden flight on the Pegasus-XL on the 27 June 1994, but failed to reach orbit.
