GE 4, 6 / AMC 4, 6 / Rainbow 2

GE 4 (AMC 4) [Lockheed]

GE-4, a hybrid C-/Ku-band satellite, will serve North and South America from its orbital location at 101 degrees West. The A2100AX satellite is designed for a 15-year lifespan, but carries enough fuel to operate for a longer period of time.

GE-6, a hybrid C/Ku-band satellite with 28 Ku Band and 24 C Band active transponders, will join the GE Americom fleet of satellites and will provide direct-to-home (DTH), media and entertainment distribution plus enterprise and internet protocol (IP)solutions in North America. The spacecraft will be lofted into orbit on a Proton-K Blok-DM3 booster provided by International Launch Services and, upon authorization by the Federal Communications Commission, will operate at 72 degrees West Longitude.

GE 4 and 6 have been renamed AMC 4 and 6, when GE Americom was sold to SES.

Rainbow Media anounced in November 2004, that it will utilize 16 transponders on the AMC-6 satellite, which VOOM refers to as Rainbow 2.
